The Dangers and Hardships of Working in a Coal Mine, Introduction


Fred Caban's stories are of his time in the Stanford Main No. 2 colliery at Paxton from 1947. From a mining family, Fred joined the mines at 16. His submission highlights the dangerous working conditions existing in underground mines.
